Full Weekend!

We had a very busy weekend around here...along with more firsts.

First up on Saturday morning, I took Sully to the clinic and we got our flu shots.  He did really well with very minimal crying.  I was a proud Mama.

Then we participated in the Madison Area Down Syndrome Society Buddy Walk on Team Harper's Heartbreakers!  It was our second year participating and it did not disappoint.  It is amazing to see all the people that come to support this community of people and families.  Bucky and the UW band lead the walkers around the Capitol building (aka "the castle" according to Sul).  Then there is a bounce house, band, face painting, crafts, auction and lots more in the Monona Terrace.  The band is definitely a highlight, especially for little Miss Harper:)

The rest of the day was not quite this happy and joyful.  About 20 minutes after we got home, Sully and the hubs were goofing off and Sully was jumping on his bed.  Apparently Sully jumped backward and the back of his head hit his headboard.  I heard the bang and the crying but just figured it was another bruise to the head.  Then I hear the hubs calling my name saying there is blood.  I rush up to find the back of his head full of hair matted with blood.  I could see a huge gash and we knew he need stitches.  I grabbed a towel and held pressure to the area and the bleeding let up.  We took him to UC where the applied some topical numbing medicine, but it might as well have been water.

Next came the injections of lidocaine and the stapling and it went exactly how you think it would go when one puts staples in an almost 3 year old's little head.  It was awful.  I had him on my lap and hugged him as close as I could while the nurse held his head steady and the hubs held his hands down and the doc did the stapling, all with a giant, hot spotlight on us.  Honestly, I don't think it could have been any more traumatic for any of us.  Here is what it looks like today, after his bath.

After that trauma, we were all a little shot.  So we decided we all needed some ice cream.

He is back to his old crazy self today, no worries.

Since this post is getting long and I have a Packer game to watch, I will share Sully's first pumpkin carving tomorrow.

Addiction...

I am going to be perfectly honest here.  I have not been able to stop messing with these shelves.  Not.one.single.day.this.week.  The hubs totally called me on it today, too.

Every single thing with the exception of one urn-like item I found in my house.  Unfortunately, I just don't have enough books and crap to fill the spaces.  Don't you feel bad for me??

The bottom has really not changed much with the exception of adding a few blankets to the right side. It is really working great to have the open shelves.  Sully just goes and picks his books out, no problem.  He also turns around the airplane, bus and truck on the middle second shelf so that they are facing the wall (I have no idea what that is about).

The top still needs some love.  But I am trying to hold off until we get the lights in on Sunday.

Also, I can't stop listening to the Lumineers.  You will recognize this song from the commercials for Silver Linings Playbook (which by the way, the song in NOT in the movie- super disappointing).

PS- this is happening today...
If you feel so inclined, click on it and check it out.  Harper's dad, Andrew Bohacek is plunging for Special Olympics!!

Happy Saturday!!

'Round here

Down, set, hut!

Yeah, this is what we do on weekends.  The kid seriously has endless energy.

Remember Harper?

She is doing fantastic!  Today, Sul and I will be participating in the Step up for Down Syndrome buddy walk.  It is put on by the Madison Area Down Syndrome Society.  Basically this group raises awareness about Ds and provides families with information and resources regarding Ds.  We will be walking for Harper's Heartbreakers.  If you feel moved, please consider donating to the cause.  You might even win a prize.  I did!  Not sure what is it yet but I was told it was too big to economically mail so I am guessing it is a car.

Happy Saturday!  Go Badgers!!

Corner Creeper

Guess what is creeping up, right around the corner????

Give up???

FALL!!!  That's right, my favorite season, my favorite weather, my favorite sport and my favorite clothes and accessories.  I even wore a cardigan to work yesterday, anticipating the crisp air that is to come.  Sweater weather and football are almost here and I can't wait!

I am so excited, I put together a fall vignette (yup another vignette) on Monday.  I decided to go with lots of white, candles, lanterns and milk glass (my new obsession).  Here it is...

I am in love with it.  I was ready for the moss and eggs to be gone.  The change is so refreshing.

Have any of you started fall decorating yet??

Harper visit!

My blog posts about Harper are the most popular by far.  So I will give you a much needed update on the little nugget.  She and her Mama came to visit today.

Harper is 8 months old now, loves mangoes, is very interested in her hands and feet, hardly cries, rolls places and her hair swooshes to the side.

Obviously, she is doing fab and looking fantastic!!!

Girls with bows, could it get any better?

The girl is full of faces.

Rocking the bed head look...

And then it was time for the tornado to make his entrance.  He was so gentle (for the most part) and sweet with her.  He pets babies...

Basically, it was a hit.  Sully really loves babies, just not when his Mama is holding them.  He even shared some of his toys with her.  He is such a rough and tumble boy so when he does gentle, nice things, it warms my heart.  Especially when he does them for Harper.  He only sees that she is a baby that needs toys and I love that.

3/21

Hey, do you all remember Harper???

You know, this little nugget...

That is right, the rock star that had open heart surgery at 4 months and barely cried?!?  Yeah, she also has Down syndrome.

Today, 3/21, is World Down Syndrome Day to celebrate all those extra specials with 3 number 21 chromosomes and their families.  Tonight, I attended a MADSS (Madison Area Down Syndrome Society) event with my friend and Harper's Mama, Kaiti.  (thanks Gramma Subes for watching Sully! and thanks Andy for being out of town so I could go!)  It is an organization that you can turn to for information and support for individuals with Ds and their families.  It is a great organization and I am so happy it exists.  So we mingled (a little), watched videos (tear tear) and celebrated with some drinks.

Cheers, it's a happy day!!

Monday Funday

I am so lucky, I always get a Monday Funday after my Sunday Funday.

This Monday started out with a 7 am grocery shopping trip.  It was not my proudest moment, but I will share with all of you to save you a possible embarrassing situation.  FYI they will not sell you alcohol before 8 am.  Not even boxed wine.  Yeah, I had no idea and I felt like saying, "I promise I won't start drinking any of it until well after 8 am."  But I refrained and just went on my way.

Then, I saw this school bus in the ditch.

Then, Sully got to meet Harper!!  Remember Harper?

As you can see, she is doing FANTASTIC!!  They were so cute.  Sully did so good, no baby stomping or anything.  He layed there so nice and even offered up his thumb for Harper if she was interested.  It was very cute!

After Harper and her mama left and Sully woke from his nap, we tried out the sled.  Lets just say some one LOVED it!

And finally, I wanted to redo the pinterest inspired print I had made a little while ago.

Here is what it looked like the first time.

And here is the redo.

Much better.  I had to do it on Picnik.  You can find the instructions here.

It was a busy day!

Harper update

Harper made it through the surgery and she is doing great!  Thank you for all the prayers and positive thoughts, it must have helped as she did fantastic!  Now she is in the recovery stage.  I have a feeling she will really come alive now- laugh harder, eat more, grow faster, breathe easier and even cry louder.  Get ready Kaiti and Andy, she will keep you even busier!

Here is my favorite pic of Harper:

Isn't she a doll?

I will be back later with a post about quilting.  That's right, quilting.

Harper

Hey, this is Harper.

I just stole this from her mom, my friend's, fb page.  She may not need your help because she is quite the little fighter but why don't you help her out anyway?  You see, this little bean was born August 30, 2011, to my friend Kaiti.  You can read her birth story here.  She is a very special girl in so many ways but mostly because she is my friend's baby bird and she makes lots of people very happy.  She will be having open heart surgery tomorrow to fix a heart defect that she was born with.  Even though, the odds are in her favor to make it through the surgery and recovery process alright, that is not enough.  I don't think that would be enough for any Mama who is having their little 4 month old have open heart surgery...

So if you are a pray-er, please say a prayer for her.  If you are a positive thinker, please think positive thoughts for her.  Please think about her and her family tomorrow.

Harper, I know you will do great.  You are such a fighter.  I only hope your Mama and Daddy can make it without too much worry and anxiety!  I will be thinking about all of you tomorrow!
